My interest in music was sparked by my father's passion & dedication to both playing and listening to it for as long as I can remember. As my interest grew and show signs of potential, my father began to show me the basic on the mentioned instrument. What I'm most thankful for is the way he taught me to project my voice and how to do it with confidence. With that in mind, I began writing songs at the tender age of 10. They were bad. VERY bad! However, the love for music and the dedication instilled in me to master the gift of creativity give to me by God was far more superior than the downcast and hurtful remarks. Over time, it became the perfect formula in my life to creat beautiful music." Need I say more?

#21 - NEW ARTIST : BRENDAN JAMES

Singer : Brendan James
Genre : Folk Rock/Pop
Location : New York, United States
Album Title : The Day Is Brave
        1. Green*
        2. Hero's Song
        3. Early April Morning
        4. The Other Side
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: With his warm, rich tenor and emotionally powerful songs, Brendan James announces himself as an artist-to-watch on his dazzling debut album The Day is Brave. Rooted in the classic singer/songwriter tradition, the album is 11 tracks of stunning songcraft: elegant, earthy, and displaying a total lack of artifice that is rare in the pop world these days.

The musical narrative that runs throughout The Day is Brave has been years in the making for James, who grew up in Derry, NH. Though James was always told he had a powerful voice, he didn't begin writing songs until his sophomore year at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. James taught himself to play piano and took a year off from school to spend time in L.A. writing songs. "I was so passionate about songwriting, I wanted to get involved in the music scene and start performing," he says. In 2002, he returned to Chapel Hill, graduated, and moved to New York City, where he toiled at Urban Outfitters by day and performed at open mics around Manhattan's East Village at night. To gain access to a piano to practice, James would sneak into hotel ballrooms around the city. "I'd dress to look like a guest at the Plaza Hotel, so I could walk in there unnoticed," he says. Hence, where the name of his 4 song EP - "The Ballroom Break-In."

Encouraged by his new mentor, James continued to write and perform and eventually enlisted producer Mikal Blue for his first full-length record. Blue, who would go on to score a platinum record with Colbie Caillat, wanted to help James capture the intimacy of his live performance. "I said to Mikal, 'I've done a lot of shows over the last few years and I want to give the audience as real and genuine a performance as possible when it comes to the vocals and piano playing.'"

The Day Is Brave is thankfully that honest musical manifesto that acknowledges James's growth as a person and a performer. Dominated by James's expressive piano playing, the songs are mainly autobiographical, like "Green," about a former girlfriend he met while working at Urban Outfitters, and "Manchester," about the town in New Hampshire where James spent most of his time after his parents divorced. James's youth is also the focus of "The Other Side," a playful tune James says he wrote about not fitting in as a kid and "that moment when you wake up on the other side of life and are like, 'Man, I don't have to deal with that anymore.'" Other standout tracks include "Early April Morning," a deeply felt love song, and "Hero's Song," a soldier's-eye view of the Iraq war that is also featured on Eddie Vedder's Body of War Soundtrack due out in stores March 18th. James's ballad "The Sun Will Rise" has also already received national attention since the music supervisor of the hit ABC show Private Practice used it in the season's final episode of 2007.

Album Title : The EP

        2. One Small Step
        3. The New Year
        4. Words Meet Heartbeats*
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: As we approach our second "tenth", we needed someone/thing to help us stamp our mark in the music blogsphere. So, take four best friends, a small town in Virginia called Charlottesville, hundreds of practice sessions in their parents' attics, and a college buddy from another small VA town (Falls Church), and you have SPARKY'S FLAW. Will Anderson, Kit French, Johnny Stubblefield, Alex Hargrave and Nate McFarland are SPARKY'S FLAW - think Maroon 5 and The Fray. With the kind of raw energy that tends to only occur when the musicians on stage also happen to be best friends, SPARKY'S FLAW has the pop sensibility to take over the world, one small town at a time.

p/s: After a short hiatus, soulofindie's back and running! There were a couple of artist which I'm juggling upon but I couldn't resist the chance to post on Schuyler Fisk as soon as I got hold of her music! Myy, this girl-next-door sure is blessed with one really sweet and fresh voice for the music scene. Pronounced as "Sky-ler", Schuyler Fisk is actually an actress cum singer/song-writer. An actress? Yeap! Her most notable acting role would be playing the role of Daytona, from OTH. We picked out "The Good Stuff" out of the whole lots as soulofindie pick-of-the-artist simply because it's a little more uptempo and more disguishable. Probably, the best stuff from Schuyler! Like always, do check them all out. She's terribly GOOD!

        6. The Father The Son
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: Matt Duke's very prominent in his territory - Philadelphia. I honestly don't think there's much introduction needed as his music and fame speaks for itself. Matt has already received astounding support from WXPN radio, performing frequently at World Café Live and at several WXPN sponsored events throughout the Philadelphia area. At just 23 years old, Matt Duke penned “Kingdom Underground” with a delightfully sweet and bitter confection of instantly gratifying tunes, smartly written with a wise-beyond-his-years introspect. One truly amazing artist. Don't miss it!

#17 - NEW ARTIST : VARSITY FANCLUB

L-R: David Lei Brandt, Thomas Fiss, Bobby Edner, Jayk Purdy, Drew Ryan Scott

Location : Los Angeles, California, United States
Album Title : -
        1. Future Love
        2. Zero
        3. Complicated Girl
        4. You'll Be Okay*
        5. She's Looking For Love In The Club
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: Varsity Fanclub aka VFC in short. My oh myyy... I could already imagine thousands of fans screaming across the globe whenever this few young punks appear on stage. Yea, you got it... Much like the ones of Jonas Brothers. Anyway, VFC could be file under boy-band wonders in my filled archive folder. I must say that VFC is a brand by itself. Very much like S Club 7 if you people could recall? Their songs are majority pop-ish. Very shallow with the vocals. However, this kind of musics are usually easier to catch and get obsessess with. It should suit teenagers best in my opinion. "You'll Feel Okay" will be my personal pick and I'm pretty sure it'll be many of yours as well! It's slow-rock, pop-ish, a little rap here and there - viola! Of course, be sure to check every single one of them out. I trust you guys will like it.

#16 - NEW ARTIST : WE ARE CASTLES

Singer : We Are Castles
Genre : Rock/Indie/Alternative
Location : Bucks County PA & Hunterdon County, New Jersey, United States
Album Title : -
        1. Next Big Thing
        2. News To Me (ft Keith Goodwin)
        3. Wait For The Signal
        4. Time Passes By*
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: ...and you wonder how come bands these days have weird names! We Are Castles' not different I must say. They're cool, rocking, and geeky! No, I'm just kidding. If you're a stern follower of One Tree Hill, "News To Me" was premiered on Season 5 episode 17. Yes, go watch! Their tracks are pretty emo, so to speak. But if you're a slow rock fan, you'll probably like them - alot!

#15 - NEW ARTIST : JUSTIN YOUNG

Singer : Justin Young
Genre : Acoustic/Soul/Folk Rock
Location : Los Angeles, California, United States
Album Title : All Attached
        1. Speak The Same
        2. Slow Fade (LIVE)
        3. Sip Your Wine
        4. Haunted*
        5. One Foot On Sand (Hawaiian Tropical Music)**
        6. Feeling For Yesterday
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: Justin Young might be familiar to most of you Malaysian fans out there as Colbie Caillat's guitarist since he was, in fact, the guitartist of that night's wet showcase at the curve along with Colbie herself. It's pretty simple with Justin. If you girls out there have a thing for guys singing while strumming the guitar - he's your perfect artist! Packed with a gifted voice and a few magical fingers that brings acoustic to whole new elevation. It's a whole new atmosphere when Justin Young's behind the microphone with his trusty guitar as he's capable of bringing you to your knees with his music. Ohhh, you wouldn't want to bet against it. "One Foot On Sand" is my best pick since it's something unique and relaxing. As stated, it's Hawaiian music - those you listen to by the beach. "Haunted" on the otherhand may sounds a little gory. Rest assured, it is a conventional acoustic, soul music by Justin. Another one of my favorite! Justin's in the music scene for quite some time now, you wouldn't go wrong with him. He's good.

#14 - NEW ARTIST : FRANCESCA BATTISTELLI

Singer : Francesca Battistelli
Genre : Christian/Pop/Soul
Location : Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Album Title : My Paper Heart
        1. Free To Be Me*
        2. It's Your Life
        3. I'm Letting Go
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: Francesca Battistelli is no stranger to the stage. Raised by parents immersed in the arts and Broadway, she developed a love of music, theatre, and performance at a young age. But instead of using these talents for applause and accolades, Francesca prefers to point people to something beyond herself -towards hope in Christ. Her soulful piano-pop sound resembles a blend of her music interests - jazz, rock, gospel and R&B woven beautifully together with themes of trust and risk-taking. In a noisy world filled with sounds and images, we cry out for an authentic voice--one who is not afraid to speak truth and purpose to a generation. In singer/songwriter Francesca Battistelli, we have found that voice.

#13 - NEW ARTIST : ACE YOUNG

Singer : Ace Young
Genre : Rock/R&B
Location : Denver, Colorado, United States
Album Title : Ace Young
        1. A Hard Hand To Hold
        2. You Redeem Me
        3. Addicted
        4. Scattered
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: After years of pursuing a career as a musical artist, Ace Young first flashed onto the national scene as a finalist on season 5 of American Idol. Persistent weekly exposure to some 40 million viewers made Ace one of the most recognizable male faces ever to appear on America's most widely watched television program.

Following Idol, Ace traveled the country performing to 60 sold out arenas across the nation. With the help of Idol, the Tour, and his own work ethic, Ace was in position to fulfill his dream of a career in music. While interest from labels followed, they were pressing Ace for immediate release to capitalize on his Idol fame, but Ace felt that rushing to market would not allow him to produce the album he envisioned. Since he was performing 6 or more gigs a month with his band across the US for income, he could afford to be patient.

Next, Ace then made a short list of producers and songwriters that he respected and hoped to collaborate with and began reaching out to them. Incredibly, he was able to arrange a meeting with the first person on his list, Desmond Child, producer and songwriter behind hits from many artists Ace really admired. After two meetings Ace and Desmond agreed to share the album cost equally and form a partnership making Desmond the Executive Producer.

Together they came up with a plan to produce an album that molded the breadth of Ace's musical influences into one record where each song would stand alone - a Rock/R&B/Funk collaboration drawing from Ace's experiences and observations of life.

It became clear that this album was a throwback to methods and processes involved in creating the great albums of the seventies and eighties: amazing live Rock and R&B musicians, a 30 piece string section, live horns and talented contemporary producers. Over sixteen months this adventure took Ace from Los Angeles to New York, Florida, Nashville and Stockholm, Sweden to write with Desmond Child and other renowned hit-makers including Andreas Carlsson. Also included is a song written specifically for Ace by Diane Warren. As the album was coming to completion Ace was rewarded with a Grammy nomination for his co-write on Daughtry's triple platinum hit single "It's Not Over". As Ace wrote on seven of the songs on his own album, this nomination further validated the authenticity of his talent.

In the process of completing the album independently, Ace built a strong seasoned executive team of music professionals. He has now partnered with PAZZO Music to release his album through Fontana/Universal in June 2008. Many music industry insiders believe that Ace and his team may have created a model for the future of the recording industry.

Alas & alack, Joshua Radin still have his very own unique-ness within his own music - an ability to help one relax and let loose even at a fast paced city life. It's really remarkable that way. #10 - NEW ARTIST : SARA BAREILLES

Singer : Sara Bareilles
Genre : Soul/Pop/Funk
Location : Los Angeles, California, United States
Album Title : Little Voice (2007)
        1. Bottle It Up
        2. Love Song
        3. Fairytale
        4. Gravity
        5. Vegas
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: Sara Bareilles. What's more left to be said? "Love Song" shot into international fame at the turn of the year. Ever since then, we listen to it almost on a daily basis as soon as we turn on the radio tuner. She might not be the prettiest, but heck she've got one stunning voice and 10 talented fingers to make you bow right at her feet. She's perky, fun, and funky all at the time. Not to mention creative as well! Now, how many of you know the "little story" behind the very song - "Love Song"? Anyone? Okay, it all happen in a recording studio when the bossy producer said to her, "hey, I'll need you to write me a love song." Cracking her head for a couple of weeks - knowing that without it, she's not getting the deal - she came up with this:

Sara Bareilles - Love Song

Head under water,
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while.
The breathing gets harder, even I know that.

You made room for me but it’s too soon to see,
If I’m happy in your hands.
I’m unusually hard to hold on to.

Blank stares at blank pages.
No easy way to say this.
You mean well, but you make this hard on me.

I'm not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you asked for it,
'Cause you need one, you see.
I'm not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you tell me it's,
Make or breaking this.
If you’re on your way,
I'm not gonna write you to stay.
If all you have is leaving,
I’m gonna need a better reason to write you a love song today.
Today.

I learned the hard way,
That they all say things you want to hear.
My heavy heart sinks deep down under you,
And your twisted words, your help just hurts.
You are not what I thought you were.
Hello to high and dry.

Convinced me to please you.
Made me think that I need this too.
I’m trying to let you hear me as I am.

I'm not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you asked for it,
'Cause you need one, you see.
I'm not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you tell me it's,
Make or breaking this.
If you’re on your way,
I'm not gonna write you to stay.
If all you have is leaving,
I’m gonna need a better reason to write you a love song today.

Promise me you'll leave the light on,
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone.
'Cause I believe there's a way you can love me because I say,

I won't write you a love song,
'Cause you asked for it,
'Cause you need one, you see.
I'm not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you tell me it's,
Make or breaking this.
Is that why you wanted a love song,
'Cause you asked for it,
'Cause you need one, you see.
I’m not gonna write you a love song,
'Cause you tell me it's,
Make or breaking this.
If you’re on your way,
I’m not gonna write you to stay.
If your heart is nowhere in it,
I don’t want it for a minute.
Babe, I’ll walk the seven seas when I believe that there's a reason to,
Write you a love song today.
Today.

¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬

Make sense now? Now, trust me, the other tracks written by her are equally creative and on-the-go. A little more uptempo much like Norah Jones. You people should like it I believe.

#9 - NEW ARTIST : AMY KUNEY

Singer : Amy Kuney
Genre : Acoustic/Indie/Pop
Location : Los Angeles, California, United States
Album Title : Bird's Eye View
        1. All Downhill From Here (ft Tim Myers)
        2. Rocket Surgery
        3. Time Machine
        4. Thank You For Last Night
        5. Breaking Bad Habits
Comments are always welcome. Thanks in advance.

p/s: "A picture speaks a thousand words." as the old saying goes. Yes, Amy Kuney might look a tad bit scary up there and that she holds a guitar like a punk-rock maniac singer. However, much to everyone's - mine as well - surprise, Amy is, without a doubt, one of the most uniquely talented singer/songwriters. I didn't dare place a usual * that signify's a recommendation as every different track is a whole different story by itself! We've acoustic, then indie, and long before you realize, you're rocking with Amy already. Some of you One Tree Hill follower out there might recognize her unique voice already now that she had co-write and sing a couple of them. I would regard her as one of the most promising 21 year old singer in my personal own opinion. Professionals producer call her the new Sarah McLaughlin or rather the future Jewel! That's quite a comparison if you failed to realize. Thus, check those really really awesome tracks out.
